This is direct construction value only. It excludes the indirect and induced spending that typically follows a housing project through a local economy, so if anything it understates the eventual figure.
Framers, electricians, plumbers, project managers, and the local trades and suppliers around them, depend on a steady pipeline of work. A ten-year program at scale is designed to give them exactly that, rather than the boom-bust cycle of a single project.
National data from the Canadian Home Builders' Association shows new-home construction supported roughly 515,000 jobs against 259,000 housing starts in 2025, about two jobs per home, direct and closely related indirect.
